Avengers....Cats?

I don't have much to say in this post, except.....would you look at this!!! The Avengers....as CATS!!! Haha!!

The Hulk, Iron Man, Black Widow, Captain America, Thor, and Hawkeye all depicted as cats!!! Strangely makes me think of Puss in Boots from Shrek.

This tickled me pink seeing this! I just want to thank io9 for this, definitely brightened up my day. I hope this gives my fellow geeks a giggle or two!
Haha, love it!
That is all!

Another Take on the Portrayal of Comic Book Women X 2

So my last post was just not enough for me. So I've decided to do another post on another video or 2. Here we go!

This video that is about sexism in comic books and how women yet again are perceived as these ridiculously fantasized perfect beings of sexual nature. Umm...well it isn't extreme fantasy fiction for nothing!

Are you for real?!?! One of the guys in the video says at one point basically says that the way Batman looks is a realistic look for a man or is more toned down...have you seen what he wears, there is no imagination to what is underneath that! Yes, he is fully covered, but his armor just follows every bulge, crease, and crack that you would see if he were wearing something more revealing, same goes to the majority of the male population of superheroes. Just because they are completely covered does not mean it isn't revealing. Which is fine! I have no objectives to it, and yes, to a degree, it is eye candy. But I'm not really one to read comic books because of what the superhero or any of the characters are wearing, I'm reading for the story line and the art. But that's my personal view. Tell me about yours!

In this second video that I've decided to post here is more about the argument that there isn't sexism in comic books. Finally! Somebody with a different view! Watch and let me know what you think of this guys view.

There is this one last video I would love for my fellow geeks to check out and let me know what you think about it in the comments below. Unfortunately, I am unable to upload it, so I decided to link it. The audio isn't very good, but, man, does she get my blood boiling. She doesn't like to read western comic books because of how much sexism is in them so she sticks with anime and manga comics....umm, ok. I have nothing against either, and I'm not going to say much, because I know only know some about the manga and anime community, but not a lot. But what I do know is that the women in both manga or anime are either wear pretty much nothing or something super skimpy, not much different in the western comics. Also, many of the manga and anime comics I have read the women are usually subject to some kind of submission whether it be to a man or another woman. Hmm, sounds familiar. There is a whole bunch more I could get into about this video, but I would like to hear what you think.

Another Take on the Portrayal of Comic Book Women

I stumbled upon a few videos about how women are portrayed in comic books. I get so annoyed that people only look at the negative side of comic books, or only point out some of the part of the problem and not all of it. OR...they decide that they are gonna think for everyone and don't realize that we all have our own opinion! Here are a couple of the videos.

This first video is of people being interviewed on if women of comic books are being degraded and if they are good role models. Check it out!

This next video show's makes me annoyed, it's showing the darker side of comic books but only in a way to make women look like a pathetic victim. Um, hello, male superheroes have had unnaturally sadistic things done to them just as much as their female counter parts have, it's just nobody talks about it!!! Yes, there have been mutilation, rape, and other gruesome deeds done to these heroines, but the same have happened to male heroes...if you're gonna get upset about the violent nature of comic books then get upset about all of it, not just a piece of it. Anyway, before I blow up, check this video out and tell me what you think.

Lets Talk Sexy!

Now, all of you know that most (ok all) of the women of comic books are extremely sexy, whether if be of physical nature, mental, or both.

I came across a post on Geek Insider of what their opinion is of who is their top ten sexiest comic book women, #10 being Emma Frost (for those that you don't know, Emma Frost can basically become invincible by morphing her skin into organic diamonds) and #1 being Laura Croft (yes, Laura Croft is also a comic book woman, not just a game and/or character).

Me, personally, I only have a top three of the hottest women in comic books...ten is just too much for me to handle!!!

My #1 would have to be Aspen Matthews
Reason: She's a hybrid of the Black (secretive creatures that live in the deepest, darkest parts of the ocean, have hydrokinetic powers, are telepathic, and can manipulate energy) and Blue (aquatic beings that have hydrokinetic powers and sometimes can mentally control ice) race, she has the powers of both races, and she's a marine biologist. So, not only is she crazy good looking and has wicked powers, she's super freaking smart!

#2 is Sara Pezinni (aka Witchblade)
Reason: She's an NYPD detective who welds the Witchblade (a semi-organic ancient artifact that reacts supernaturally to threats and is the offspring of The Darkness and The Angelus, primal forces of the universe. It is able to heal the welder and grant them variety of weapons), and she is the lover of current welder of The Darkness, Jackie Estacado. She is also a mother to Hope Pezzini (father is Jackie Estacado)

and then #3 would be Laura Croft (the Tomb Raider)

Reason: She's a kick ass British archeologist known as the Tomb Raider, need I say more?

The best part about having these three as my top gals is that they all work together!! Yup, these super hotties know each other and occasionally fight the "battle for good" together!! LOVE IT!!!!

Here's a random video of someone's take on their top 10 hotties of comic books. Enjoy!

Now my question is, which comic book female character do you find sexiest? Let me know who and why.

The Evolution of Female Superheros!

I found this article on Comicvine and it made me realize that women in comic books have really come a long way from what they were portrayed as when comic books first came out.

Starting from the 1930-1940's (the Golden Ages), the most super a woman was in a comic book was that she had a career, or had a romantic role, or was just a cute perky teenage girl, but as the world and the lives of women evolved so did the roles for women in comic books.

DC - Lois Lane
Marvel - Invisible Woman

In the Silver Ages (60's and 70's) women in comic books were known to have a connection with male hero alter ego, slowly having heroine alter egos of their own, and becoming more and more prominent in each story line.

Diversity - Storm

The Bronze Ages (1980's) superheroines were known to have equality and a whole new transformation with either physical or mental being  making them that much more of a female superhero and as women.

Birds of Prey
Portrayal
And now in Modern Age comic books female superheros are have a very diverse range of how they are perceived, whether it be a sex symbol or an empowered women, superheroines are looked at as women who can basically look like anything, wear anything, and do anything that they want. Super women of the Modern Age also take on modern day lifestyles also, examples few being same sex relations, single parenting, and good girl and bad girl roles.

Vampirella
Elektra
Black Canary

Give the article a read and let me know your thoughts on the roles of women in comic books throughout the ages!

Comicbook Cosplay? Yes please!!!

Hellgirl
So I stumbled upon an awesome Tumblr blog that allows all you female comicboook cosplayers to upload and share your outfits of your favourite western comicbook character (no matter the gender)! Or if you have any questions about how to make an outfit or wondering if your cosplay outfit fits the requirements or not, just ask!! This is insane and so awesome in my opinion. OH MY LANTA!!! FINALLY!!!!! (sorry, just really excited!) A page that shows different styles of comicbook characters that are NOT Manga, Anime, or Game.... of course those outfits are completely awesome and it would be ridiculous for me to not say so, but there is a mass amount of it found all over the place! It's time for the superheros and villians of Marvel, DC, Top Cow, etc to come out and show "us" what ya got!!!

Black Widow

Side note! If you aren't a major cosplay fan but still have love for comic books, at this site you can get ideas on a Halloween costume, costume party, costume wedding??? or even role play!! ;-) (creepy...I know....but not really though!)

Super Heroines? Sensible clothes? BULL!

I was doing some browsing about comic book of women fashion and came across a post about how the artist of super heroine costumes are bred with sexism and laziness, and that it wouldn’t hurt to have more sensible clothing on these super women. I strongly disagree with this, not only these women derived strictly from fiction and fantasy but the majority of comic book fans are male (granted yes there are more and more female comic book fans everyday), and as any good company would do, they cater to the majority target market.

On this post there is a link to an amazing gallery of what our favourite super women would look like fully covered and clothed. Even though these illustrations are done beautifully they just don’t have to same “super” effect with them. They sadly look either too frumpy or too normal looking. Super women are super women because they look powerful and they are able to get away with wearing something that not many women in this world would ever dream of wearing whether they are invincible or not….
Even though these illustrations are beautiful and very well done, they look more like a Disney movie or a Manga graphic novel illustration
.
Again, I just would like to point out…these women are fictional. Hence the fantasy factor, whether people like it or not they would get bored if there wasn’t a bit of cleavage here or a rippling muscle there. The way comic women are illustrated has nothing to do with equal rights, women’s rights, or any other rights, it’s just meant to have an appeal to the audience…which, again, the majority are male, sad but true. It's not lazy or sexist, it's just facts.

If people have such a problem with how comic artists illustrate the super hero or the villain of the comic story then why don’t you do it yourself?

That is my mini rant, if you have any thoughts on the matter let me know!

Super Summers!!

The other day while I was at the beach I saw a woman wearing a Wonder Woman Bikini and it reminded me of a site a friend had linked to me earlier this year.

This summer, let out your inner superhero n the beach or by a pool or just because! Bikinis, swimsuits, tank tops, shorts, towels, and flip flops, all the essentials needed to support your favourite super vigilantes on a hot sunny day!!

Proud to be a GEEK!

Hey there, Lady of the Geek here! So, I have this class where we have to make a blog about a certain topic that we chose ourselves. Truthfully I pretty much suck at these things, so I will do my best.
This blog is pretty much about anything geeky, nerdy, and dorky....from super hero comic books to medieval reenactments.
Everyone has a bit of Steve Urkel in them, ...so I just ask to let your inner geek out and have fun.
